UPN European channels (EN 10365, formerly DIN 1026-1)

The UPN is the standard European U-channel, with flanges that taper on the inside (8% up to UPN 300, 5% above). It is used for light beams, frames, bracing, stair stringers, vehicle chassis and general fabrication.

A channel is not symmetrical about its web, so the table also gives ys, the distance from the back of the web to the centroid, and ym, the distance to the shear centre: a load that does not pass through the shear centre twists the section.
