IPN European standard I-beams (EN 10365, formerly DIN 1025-1)

The IPN is the classic European I-beam, or joist, with flanges that taper at 14% on the inside. It has largely been replaced by the parallel-flange IPE for structural work but is still rolled for crane runways and trolley beams, mining supports and the repair of older structures.

Tolerances for taper-flange I-sections are in EN 10024, not EN 10034. The flange thickness tf is the mean thickness, measured at a quarter of the flange width from the toe.
