Standard: GOST 8240-97 formerly GOST 8240-89
GOST 8240 covers Russian and CIS hot-rolled channels in several series: U with tapered flanges, P with parallel flanges, and the lighter E (economical) and L series. The E series below has parallel flanges. In Russian practice the number is the depth in centimetres (8E, 10E…); the designations here use millimetres.
These channels are sometimes offered as "UPE", but they are not the European UPE series of EN 10365, which has different dimensions.
