Buys Cold Rolled, Aluzinc-Galvalume, Cold Rolled Coils, Electro Galvanized +1
Narrow cold-rolled stainless strip with rounded edges, supplied in coils with buckles or as ready-made ball-lock cable ties, used to fasten signs, cables, pipes, insulation jacketing and hoses. Unlike carbon steel packing strap, it is meant to stay outdoors for years, so the grade — 201, 304 or 316 — is chosen for the exposure.
Stainless banding is slit from cold-rolled strip, edge-rounded or deburred so it does not cut cable sheaths or hands, and wound into small coils in a dispenser box. It is tensioned around the object with a hand banding tool and locked by a stainless buckle; the tool cuts the tail off. Ball-lock cable ties are short lengths of thin strip with a self-locking head, pulled tight by hand or with a tensioning gun.
The grade decides the life. Type 201 is a lower-nickel, manganese-bearing austenitic grade that costs less and is fine indoors or in dry inland air; 304 is the general-purpose outdoor grade; and 316, with molybdenum, is used near the sea, offshore, in chemical plants and anywhere the strap sits wet. Plastic-coated (polyester or nylon) ties and strap prevent galvanic contact with aluminium jacketing and protect cable sheaths.
Strap is rated by its breaking strength, which depends on width, thickness and temper; the buckle or tie head is often the weak point, so the system rating from the maker is what matters. Cable ties for electrical installations are tested to IEC 62275 for loop tensile strength, temperature range and, outdoors, resistance to UV and weather — stainless ties are chosen for fire-resistance and long outdoor life.
In the GCC stainless banding and ties are used throughout oil, gas and petrochemical plants to secure insulation jacketing on hot and cold piping, on offshore platforms, on large solar farms and in road and street signage. Strong sun, heat and coastal humidity rule out plastic ties for long-life outdoor work, so 316 is commonly specified.
Banding is ordered by width, thickness, grade and coil length, with the matching buckle size; ties by width, length, grade and coating.
