Buys Seamless Pipes
L-shaped stainless steel sections with equal or unequal legs, the most widely stocked stainless structural shape. They are used for frames, supports, brackets, edge trims and fixings in plant, marine, food and architectural work, and come hot rolled, laser-fused or cold formed.
Stainless angles are produced three ways. Hot-rolled angles come off small section mills in the common sizes, with a root radius inside the corner and slightly rounded toes, pickled to a 1D finish. Laser-fused angles join two strips along the corner, giving a sharp, square corner and making unequal and heavy sizes economic. Cold-formed angles are bent from sheet or strip and have an outside corner radius of about the thickness; they are usual below 3 mm and for architectural trims.
Equal-angle sizes follow the EN 10056-1 series (a carbon steel standard whose sizes stainless mills copy) and JIS G4317 (and the inch series to ASTM A276 in American practice). The mass of a stainless angle is about 1% higher than that of a carbon steel angle of the same dimensions because of the higher density, and a sharp-cornered laser-fused angle is slightly lighter than a hot-rolled one with a root radius.
304L and 316L angles are general stock items with GCC stainless stockists, used for supports and frames in food plants, water treatment and desalination, swimming pools, coastal architecture and boat building. Hot-rolled angles come mainly from Asian and European section mills.
Angles are ordered by leg sizes and thickness, grade, manufacturing route and length; for visible work also the surface finish.
