Buys Alloy steel, Cold Rolled, Angles, Fasteners +8
Channels, angles, C-, Z-, top-hat and special profiles formed at room temperature from stainless sheet or strip, by roll forming in long runs or by press braking. They are light, can be made in any shape and finish, and are used for cable tray and strut systems, frames, façades, trims and equipment in corrosive or hygienic environments.
Cold-formed sections are made by bending flat stainless sheet, strip or plate at room temperature. Roll forming passes the strip through a series of shaped roll stands and suits long runs of one profile, such as strut channel or cable-tray side rails; press braking folds individual lengths and suits short runs and special shapes. Because the material is not reheated, the finish of the sheet — 2B, brushed or polished — is kept, which is why cold-formed profiles are used for visible and hygienic work.
Cold working raises the strength of austenitic stainless steel at the bends, but a cold-formed section is thin compared with a hot-rolled one, so local buckling governs its design. Stainless cold-formed members are designed to EN 1993-1-4 together with the cold-formed rules of EN 1993-1-3, or to AISC 370 in American practice.
In the GCC, stainless cold-formed sections are widely used for cable support systems in oil, gas and petrochemical plants and offshore, for façade and glazing subframes, and in kitchens, food plants and hospitals. They are produced by regional roll-forming and fabrication shops from imported coil and sheet, and imported as standard strut and tray systems.
Sections are ordered by profile drawing or catalogue reference, thickness, grade, finish and length.
