Stainless sheet finishes (EN 10088-2 and ASTM A480)

Standard: EN 10088-2 (process route codes) · ASTM A480 (finish numbers) · JIS G4305

The finish of a stainless sheet is named twice: by a process-route code in EN 10088-2 (a digit for hot rolled, 1, or cold rolled, 2, followed by a letter) and by a number or name in ASTM A480 (No. 1, 2D, 2B, BA, No. 4, No. 8). Polished finishes are described loosely in the trade — No. 4 from one mill can look different from another’s — so for visible work agree a sample or a roughness value (Ra) as well as the code.
