Hot rolled plate thickness tolerances (EN 10029, formerly DIN 1543)

Standard: EN 10029 formerly DIN 1543

EN 10029 covers tolerances on dimensions, shape and mass of hot-rolled steel plates (rolled as plate on a reversing mill, as opposed to plate cut from coil, which is covered by EN 10051) from 3 to 250 mm thick. It replaced DIN 1543, whose “usual” and “limited lower deviation” columns became classes A and B.

The buyer chooses the class on the order. Class A is the default; class B, with a fixed −0.3 mm lower limit, is common for structural and pressure-vessel plate where the design uses the nominal thickness; C allows no under-thickness at all; D is symmetric.
