Welspun, Perma-Pipe approve USD 125mln pipe manufacturing project in Jordan
Welspun Corp and Perma-Pipe International Holdings have approved a joint investment of up to USD 125 mln to establish spiral pipe manufacturing and coating facilities in Jordan, advancing plans first announced in September.
The investment will be funded equally by the two partners, with each contributing approximately USD 62.5 mln. The proposed facilities will manufacture and coat pipes ranging from 24 inches to 120 inches in diameter, targeting water, oil and gas, energy and infrastructure projects in Jordan and surrounding regional markets.
The partnership will combine Welspun's large-diameter steel pipe manufacturing capabilities with Perma-Pipe's expertise in anti-corrosion coating systems and engineered piping solutions. The companies intend to establish a regional manufacturing hub to support infrastructure development and strengthen local supply chains. Definitive agreements covering governance and operational arrangements are expected to be executed in due course.
The project could also serve future infrastructure and reconstruction requirements in Syria, Lebanon, Iraq and Gaza, as well as potential opportunities related to the development and rerouting of regional oil and gas infrastructure towards the Port of Aqaba, according to the announcement.
Separately, Welspun Corp has approved a joint venture with Perma-Pipe Qatar to establish an internal fusion-bonded epoxy (IFBE) coating facility in India through Welspun Special Coating Private Limited (WSCPL).
Under the proposed arrangement, Welspun Corp will hold a 49pct stake in WSCPL, while Perma-Pipe Qatar will own the remaining 51pct. The facility will provide internal FBE coating for steel pipes used in oil and gas pipelines, water transmission, slurry pipelines and chemical processing applications. The partnership is expected to support Welspun's efforts to secure domestic and export orders for internally coated pipes.
