AGPC expands LSAW pipe production capability

Abu Dhabi-based Al Gharbia Pipe Company (AGPC) has expanded its LSAW pipe manufacturing capability, increasing its maximum pipe wall thickness to 47.30 mm from 44.50 mm.

The company demonstrated the new capability by producing 600 pipes for hot induction bend and line pipe applications. The pipes were manufactured using a multi-layer welding technique and met project specifications requiring high toughness at temperatures as low as -49 Celsius.

AGPC said the production of heavier-wall pipes required additional work to manage higher forming forces, maintain dimensional accuracy and control welding, heat input and residual stresses. The company addressed these challenges through engineering studies, revised welding procedures and additional quality testing.

Established in 2015, Al Gharbia Pipe Company (AGPC) is an Abu Dhabi-based manufacturer of longitudinally submerged arc welded (LSAW) steel pipes. The company is a joint venture between ADQ, JFE Steel and Marubeni-Itochu Steel. AGPC operates a 52,000-square-metre manufacturing facility in Khalifa Industrial Zone Abu Dhabi (KIZAD) and supplies pipes for industrial applications. The company holds API 2B and 5L, ADNOC ICV and ISO certifications.
