Aubert & Duval modernizes radial forging machine at Les Ancizes site
Aubert & Duval has completed the modernization of the electrical control and hydraulic systems of its SMX radial forging machine at the Les Ancizes site in France, with SMS group carrying out the project within an 18-week construction period.
Commissioned in March 2024, the upgrade included new electrical control systems, power and control cabinets, operator panels and visualization, as well as modifications to the hydraulic system. SMS also integrated its ComForge Forging Technology Suite to support operators in optimizing forging processes and material properties.
The modernization was carried out within the existing machine structure while maintaining production parameters required to preserve Aubert & Duval's product qualifications. The upgraded system also incorporates existing piercing patterns, supporting continued production for critical sectors including aerospace, energy and defense.
The project was completed on schedule, with production ramp-up progressing faster than planned, according to SMS group.
