Wire rod · Size & tolerance table

Wire rod diameters and mass per metre

Standard: ISO 16124 (dimensions) · EN 10017 · ASTM A510/A510M

Wire rod is rolled in coils and sold by the nominal diameter. 5.5 mm is by far the most traded size because it is the usual feed for drawing down to common wire sizes; 6.5–12 mm goes to thicker wire, mesh, fasteners and coiled rebar.

Mass and length are for a round of the nominal diameter at 7,850 kg/m³. Diameter tolerance and out-of-roundness are set by ISO 16124 (by tolerance class), EN 10017 for rod for drawing, or ASTM A510 — state which, and the class, when ordering.
