Tata Steel Nederland supplies low-emission steel for packaging
Tata Steel Nederland has partnered with packaging manufacturer Envases Europe to supply Carbon Lite steel, enabling brands and fillers to reduce the carbon footprint of steel packaging and report lower Scope 3 emissions.
The offering uses a mass-balance approach to allocate verified CO2 equivalent emission reductions to specific quantities of steel. The reductions are linked to decarbonization projects implemented by Tata Steel Nederland in its packaging steel production route and independently verified by DNV.
Envases Europe will pass the verified emission reduction data on to customers to support their corporate carbon accounting and Scope 3 reporting, while maintaining existing packaging quality, safety and performance standards.
The partnership supports Tata Steel Nederland’s wider decarbonization efforts. Its Green Steel Project at IJmuiden aims to transform steel production through lower-emission technologies and increased scrap use, with the long-term goal of achieving net-zero steel production by 2045.
Tata Steel Nederland is a subsidiary of the India-based Tata Steel Group, focusing on high-quality strip steel for demanding sectors such as automotive, construction, and packaging, with an annual crude steel production capacity of 7.5 mln tons per annum.Published 22 October 2026.
