Tata Steel and World Steel Association partner on steel-based zero energy building

Tata Steel, in partnership with Constructsteel, the World Steel Association's market-development programme, has inaugurated a steel-based Zero Energy Building (ZEB) built using advanced Light-Gauge Steel Frame (LGSF) technology, marking a step forward in energy-efficient construction.

The 1,836 sq ft facility was completed in just 3.5 months and is designed to support India's transition toward net-zero, climate-resilient infrastructure. LGSF technology uses precisely manufactured steel sections to create a tight building envelope, improving insulation and reducing energy loss, while offering faster construction, durability, and recyclability.

The building is designed to produce as much energy as it consumes annually through a combination of ultra-low energy demand and on-site renewable generation. Key features include high-performance glazing, well-insulated walls and roofing, natural ventilation, rooftop solar panels, and building-integrated photovoltaics. Water efficiency is enhanced through rainwater harvesting and low-flow fixtures.

Tata Steel is among the world's leading steel producers, with annual crude steel capacity of around 35 mln tons.
