Shougang to revamp slab caster at Caofeidian plant

China's Shougang Jingtang has selected Primetals Technologies to revamp its two-strand No. 2 slab caster at its plant in Caofeidian, Hebei province, aiming to improve slab quality, casting speed and productivity. Startup is scheduled for September 2027.

The project will include the replacement of key caster equipment and installation of Primetals Technologies' DynaGap Soft Reduction control system to improve slab center quality and support better rolling results. The upgraded caster will also feature the latest LevCon mold-level control system, a new strand guide and EcoStar Spiral rolls.

New Level 1 and Level 2 automation systems, including DynaPhase, Dynacs 3D and DynaGap 3D, will further improve surface and internal slab quality. The new strand guide will also allow dry casting in the horizontal section, supporting higher slab exit temperatures and potential future extension of the caster's metallurgical length.

Shougang Jingtang is a major integrated steel producer located in Caofeidian, Hebei Province, China. The company has an annual crude steel production capacity of approximately 13.7 mln tons and specializes in high-value flat steel products, including advanced automotive steel, galvanized steel, electrical steel and tinplate.
