Scrap imports increase during Jan-Sept

Turkey imported 14.3 mln tons of steel scrap during January-September 2026, up 2.9pct YoY, according to data from the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK).

The United States remained Turkey's largest scrap supplier during the period, with shipments totaling 2.7 mln tons, followed by the United Kingdom at 1.7 mln tons and the Netherlands at 1.64 mln tons. Romania and Belgium also supplied around 1 mln tons each.

In September, Turkey imported 1.55 mln tons of scrap, down 9pct YoY but up nearly 11pct month-on-month.
