Megasa SN Seixal awards contract to modernize rolling mill
Megasa has awarded Danieli a contract to modernize the 1 mln tons per year bar, spooler and wire rod rolling mill at Siderurgica Nacional (SN) Seixal in Portugal. Start-up of the upgraded facilities is scheduled for Q3 2027.
The first phase will include a 6 MW Danieli Q-HEAT induction heating system with three coils to compensate for billet temperature losses during transfer from the reheating furnace to the first rolling stand. The system is also designed to improve temperature uniformity along billets, supporting consistent product quality and mechanical properties.
The modernization will also involve rearranging and upgrading the intermediate mill area to simplify roll pass design, streamline production and improve operational safety. Danieli will supply four new cantilever ESS rolling stands for the section.
Danieli Automation will replace the existing Level 2 process control platform with a new system to improve material tracking from billet loading through to finished-product handling across the mill’s finishing lines.
