JSW Utkal Steel orders sinter plant for Odisha steel project

India’s JSW Utkal Steel Limited has awarded SMS group a contract to supply a sinter plant for its planned integrated steelworks in Odisha, part of a greenfield project with a capacity of 13.2 mln tons per year.

The traveling-grate sinter plant will be the third facility of this scale within the JSW Group. SMS group will provide design, engineering and equipment, including electrical systems and Level 1 and Level 2 automation.

The plant will feature SMS group’s Optimus Sinter digital solution to optimize fuel consumption, stabilize production and provide real-time process insights without additional hardware investment. It will also incorporate Emission- and Energy-Optimized Sintering (EOS) technology, which recovers and uses waste heat to improve energy efficiency, reduce emissions and lower operating costs.

SMS group said the new facility would combine process and digital technologies to improve productivity, energy efficiency and environmental performance.
