Deacero casts first billet at new Ramos Arizpe minimill
Deacero has successfully cast the first billet at its new minimill in Ramos Arizpe, Mexico, marking the start of commissioning at the Danieli-supplied facility.
The startup was achieved using the existing electric arc furnace (EAF) at Steelmaking Plant No. 1 to supply the continuous caster, while commissioning work continues on the new EAF at Steelmaking Plant No. 2. This arrangement allows the casting complex to begin operating while the second steelmaking unit is being commissioned.
The first billet casting marks the completion of an initial startup milestone, with commissioning activities set to continue in the coming weeks. The next stage will involve starting beam-blank production, paving the way for the manufacture of large structural sections.
Deacero is one of North America's largest steel producers, with an annual capacity of 4.5 mln tons. The company operates an integrated business model encompassing scrap recycling, steelmaking, wire and rebar production, and a network of mills, recycling centers, and distribution hubs across North and Latin America, as well as a commercial presence in Europe.
