Who sets standards in Iraq, and the conformity rules for imported steel.

Standards body

The Central Organization for Standardization and Quality Control (COSQC) is Iraq’s national standards body, under the Ministry of Planning. It signed a memorandum of understanding with the GCC Standardization Organization in 2022.

Imports: inspection and certificates of conformity

Goods imported into Iraq fall under a pre-import inspection, testing and certification programme, and a certificate of conformity is needed for customs clearance. The product list in force from 17 June 2025 includes steel bars for concrete reinforcement (IQS 5264-1:2024 for smooth bars, and ENG 92:2024).
