- December
- World crude steel production reached 1,329.7 million (1.33 bln) metric
tons for the year of 2008, a decrease of -1.2% compared to 2007.
- Steel production declined in nearly all countries and regions including the EU, N. America, S. America and the
CIS in 2008.
- Asia, in particular China, and the Middle East showed positive growth in
2008.
- World crude steel output for December 2008 recorded a decrease of -24.3%
compared to 2007.
- China’s crude steel prod. in 2008 reached 502 mmt, an increase of
2.6% y-o-y, the 1st country ever to produce more than 500 mmt.
- Asia produced 770 mmt of crude steel in 2008, 58% of world total steel
production, 1.9% growth over 2007.
- South Korea and India recorded increases of 3.8% and 3.7% respectively.
- Japan produced 118 mmt in 2008, a decrease of -1.2% on 2007.
- The EU-27 produced 199 mmt of crude steel in 2008 recording a decrease
of -5.3% compared to 2007.
- CIS showed a decrease of -8.1% in 2008.
- Russia produced 69 mmt of crude steel, a -5.4% reduction over 2007.
- Ukraine recorded a decrease of -13.1% with year-end figures of 37 mmt.
- November
- World crude steel production was 89 million metric tons (mmt), 19%
lower than the same month of 2007.
- Total world crude steel production was 1,224.6 mmt in the first 11 months of
2008, a 0.9% increase over the same period in 2007.
- In the first 11 months of 2008, China produced 463 mmt of crude
steel, an increase of 2.6% compared to the same period in 2007.
- China produced 35.2 mmt of crude steel in November. This is a decrease of
-12.4% compared to the same month in 2007.
- Asia produced 54.1 mmt of crude steel in November 2008 compared to 61 mmt
in November 2007, a -11.4% decrease y-o-y.
- Russia produced 3.7 mmt, -36.5% less than November 2007.
- Ukraine produced 1.6 mmt, a decrease of -54.9%.
- October
- World crude steel production was 100.5 million metric tons (mmt), 12.4%
lower than the same month of 2007.
- Total world crude steel production was 1,136.2 mmt in the first 10 months of
2008, a 2.9% increase over the same period in 2007.
- In the first 10 months of 2008, China produced 427.3 mmt of crude
steel, an increase of 3.9% compared to the same period in 2007.
- China produced 35.9 mmt of crude steel in October. This is a decrease of
-17% compared to the same month in 2007.
- Asia produced 56.9 mmt of crude steel in October 2008 compared to 64.4 mmt
in October 2007, a -9.4% decrease y-o-y.
- Russia produced 4.5 mmt, -27.1% less than October 2007.
- Ukraine produced 1.9 mmt, a decrease of -48.7%.
- September
- World crude steel production was 108.4 million metric tons (mmt), 3.2%
lower than the same month of 2007.
- Total world crude steel production was 1,035.8 mmt in the first nine
months of
2008, a 4.6% increase over the same period in 2007.
- In the first nine months of 2008, China produced 391 mmt of crude
steel, an increase of 6.2% compared to the same period in 2007.
- China produced 39.6 mmt of crude steel in September. This is a decrease of
-9.1% compared to the same month in 2007.
- Asia produced 60.4 mmt of crude steel in September 2008 compared to 63.7 mmt
in September 2007, a -5.1% decrease y-o-y.
- EU produced 17.4 mmt of crude steel, an increase of 0.9%.
- In the first nine months, the EU produced 160.1 mmt, a 1.2% increase
over the same period in 2007.
- Russia produced 6.1 mmt, 7% higher than September 2007.
- August
- World crude steel production was 112.2 million metric tons (mmt), 2.9% higher than the same month of 2007.
- Total world crude steel production was 926.3 mmt in the first eight
months of
2008, a 5.6% increase over the same period in 2007.
- In the first eight months of 2008, China produced 351.1 mmt of crude
steel, an increase of 8.3% compared to the same period in 2007.
- China produced 42.6 mmt of crude steel in August. This is an increase of
1.3% compared to the same month in 2007.
- Asia produced 63.8 mmt of crude steel in August 2008 compared to 62.2 mmt
in August 2007, a 2.4% increase in crude steel production.
- July
- World crude steel production was 117.2 million metric tons (mmt), 6.2% higher than the same month of 2007.
- Total world crude steel production was 815.1 mmt in the first seven
months of
2008, a 6.1% increase over the same period in 2007.
- In the first seven months of 2008, China produced 308.3 mmt of crude
steel, an increase of 9.3% compared to the same period in 2007.
- China produced 44.9 mmt of crude steel in July. This is an increase of
7.5% compared to the same month in 2007.
- Asia produced 66.4 mmt of crude steel in July 2008 compared to 62 mmt
in July 2007, an 7.1% increase in crude steel production.
- June
- World crude steel production was 118.8 million metric tons (mmt), 5.9% higher than the same month of 2007.
- Total world crude steel production was 696 mmt in the first half of
2008, a 5.7% increase over the same period in 2007.
- In the first six months of 2008, China produced 263.2 mmt of crude
steel, an increase of 9.6% compared to the same period in 2007.
- China produced 46.9 mmt of crude steel in June. This is an increase of
10.2% compared to the same month in 2007.
- Asia produced 68.3 mmt of crude steel in June 2008 compared to 62.8 mmt
in June 2007, an 8.7% increase in crude steel production.
- Turkish crude steel production was 2.5 mmt, a 17.5% increase compared to
the same month last year.
- Turkey produced 14.2 mmt of crude steel, which is 10.6% more in the
first six months of 2008 compared to 2007
- May
- World crude steel production was 119.5 million metric tons (mmt), 5.8% higher than the same month of 2007.
- China produced 46 mmt of crude steel in May. This is an increase of
10.5% compared to the same month in 2007.
- Asia produced 67.6 mmt of crude steel in May 2008 compared to 62.4 mmt
in May 2007, an 8.3% increase in crude steel production.
- Turkish crude steel production was 2.5 mmt, a 12% increase compared to
the same month last year.
- Over the first five months of 2008, Turkey produced 11.7 mmt of crude
steel, which is 9% more than the same period in 2007.
- April
- World crude steel production was 116.4 million metric tons (mmt), 5.6% higher than the same month of 2007.
- Total world crude steel production was 457.3 mmt in the first four
months of 2008, a 5.7% increase over the same period in 2007.
- In the first four months of 2008, China produced 169.8 mmt of crude
steel, an increase of 9.1% compared to the same period in 2007.
- China’s crude steel production for April 2008 was 44.7 mmt, an increase
of 10.2% on April 2007.
- Asia produced 65.7 mmt of crude steel in April 2008 compared to 60.5 mmt
in April 2007, an increase of 8.7% .
- Turkey’s crude steel production was 2.3 mmt, which was 2.7% higher than
the same month last year.
- Turkey produced 8.2% more crude steel in the first four months of 2008
than over the same period last year.
- March
- World crude steel production was 119.5 million metric tons (mmt), 5.8% higher than the same month of 2007.
- China produced 124.9 mmt, 8.6% higher than for
the same month last year.
- Asia produced 66.9 mmt of crude steel, compared to 61.5 mmt in March
2007, an 8.8% increase.
- Turkey produced 2.4 mmt, which was 7.5% higher than the same month last
year.
- Turkey produced 10.1% more crude steel in the first quarter of 2008 than
over the same period last year.
- February
- World crude steel production was 107 million metric tons (mmt), 5.3% higher than the same month of 2007.
- China produced 38.9 mmt, 7% higher than for
the same month last year.
- 27 EU countries produced 16.6 mmt, 2% lower y-o-y.
