Founded in 1982, Sharjah Steel Pipe Manufacturing Company (SSPMC) is today one of the leading producers of steel-welded pipes in the Middle East. The shareholders of SSPMC comprise two of the region's leading business houses. Based on the strength of their knowledge and resources the company has since 1982 developed a modern and sophisticated facility situated in a busy commercial hub of the United Arab Emirates. With decades of experience, Sharjah Steel Pipes Manufacturing has become a major supplier to the regional construction, petroleum and water sectors. An enviable reputation has been achieved through commitment to quality control, state-of-the-art technology and the very best in raw materials. From the manufacturing base close to Sharjah International Airport, SSPMC offers customers competitively-priced spiral, submerged arc-welded pipes tailored to meet individual needs and exacting international standards. SSPMC products carry the monogram of the American Petroleum (API) and the quality evaluations Ltd. The experience workforce is dedicated to providing the highest quality product and customer service. CAPABILITY Quality has been the guiding principle of SSPMC since its inception The SSPMC spiral pipe mill was supplied by the leading German equipment manufacturer Blohm & Voss and has a capacity of 40,000 tones a year. The manufacturing process is complemented by fluoroscopic X-ray and the choice pf square or bevel end facings. Spiral-welded pipe technology is the recognized leader in the pipe manufacturing industry. Besides producing an extremely durable product, the technology is highly efficient and flexible allowing SSPMC the capability to manufacture a wide range of pipes sizes, cut to variable lengths ranging from 6 to 16 meters. The company produces two types of pipes. Line Pipes Manufactured to API specifications 5L, line pipes are used extensively in the transmission of water, petrochemical, oil and gas. SSPMC offers a size range of 12 to 64 inches in diameter with a thickness range from 4 to 19 millimeters with steel grade upto X70 or equivalent. The pipes can be finished with either square or bevel ends, depending on client specified requirements. Pile Pipes With the flexibility offered by spiral welded pipes, SSPMC offer pile pipes up to 2 meters in diameter for use as foundation piles and structural columns. QUALITY CONTROL At each step of the manufacturing process stringent quality control monitors each operation, ensuring specifications are fully met. To ensure the highest quality products and that client specifications are matched, a team of quality control inspectors monitor nine separate stages of test and inspection. On delivery of the hot-rolled coils, a manual ultrasonic inspection is carried out to detect any areas of lamination on the material plus any dimensional flaws. Quality control inspectors conduct a mill test to determine the chemical composition and mechanical properties of the scalp before it is fed into the spiral pipe machine. After the strip has been formed and welded, an on-line ultrasonic examination is undertaken to check for any lamination around the parent metal, defects of the welded seam and heat affected areas. After cleaning, the pipe then undergoes a through primary visual and dimensional inspection focusing on the weld bead and the surface condition of the base metal. The pipes are then passed through the fluoroscopic x-ray where again, the weld is checked to identify any possible weak spots. The results of this examination are recorded on tape for each client's scrutiny. The processed pipes then proceed to the hydrostatic testing machine where they are subjected to pressurized water to pre-specified guidelines. Following hydrostatic testing quality controllers undertake a further radiographic X-ray inspection on both pipe ends before a final mill examination. Each length of pipe undergoes weighing, and finally stenciling to indicate completion. In addition to on-line production inspections, mechanical and chemical tests are carried out on samples taken at random from the production line. These tests are performed according to the highest international standards of which SSPMC have become recognized THE PRODUCTION PROCESS SSPMC uses submerged arc welding process, which ensures a perfect weld. Spiral welded pipes at SSPMC are manufactured from top quality, hot rolled coils supplied by the world's leading steel producers. The production process commences with uncoiled steel roll being fed
into the spiral pipe mill machine. Here it is trimmed and beveled before being
passed into the forming station. Once shaped, the spiral Sean is arc-welded
automatically and continuously, first inside and then outside ensuring a
perfect bond, with sufficient fusion. A welding qualification test is performed
during the initial process. After welding, the pipe passes through the
on-line ultrasonic testing unit, which scans along and across the parent metal,
as well as the entire length of the spiral weld seam. The welded pipe is then
cut to specified lengths by a flame cut-off machine without stopping production LOCATION |
