Iran Spiral expanding operations |
Iran Spiral, the spiral-weld
tube and pipe producer, is expanding its operations to include a meltshop,
light section mill and bar mill, as well as increasing its production
capacity at its ERW pipe subsidiary, Kalup Co.The installation of the
120,000 tpy capacity light section mill adjacent to Spiral's plant at
Isfahan is due to be completed by early 2002 at a cost of about $5m. The
mill, which was purchased from the Portuguese state-owned Siderugia
Naçional and installed and upgraded from its original 40,000 tpy capacity
by the Italian plantmaker, Danieli, will produce 10mm-60mm sections. A
300,000 tpy bar mill is also planned at Isfahan, but construction will not
get underway until the light section mill is operational. The section and
bar mills will be supplied with 130mm x 130mm billets from the new 400,000
tpy melt shop and billet caster, scheduled to start in mid 2002.
An electric arc furnace (EAF) will be purchased locally, while the remainder of the plant has been bought secondhand from Swiss Steel and assembled by the Swiss plantmaker, Concast. Billets that do not go to the light section and bar mills will be sold in the market. Spiral's subsidiary, Kalup, is upgrading its mill by mid 2002 to increase the production capacity of ERW pipes and square and rectangular hollow sections, from 100,000tpy -130,000tpy. Spiral traditionally makes 16in - 120in spiral welded pipes. The raw material is supplied either by National Iranian Steel's Mobarekeh slab mill or imported from Kazakhstan. Spiral sells most of its pipes in the Iranian market, but also exports some to European clients.
