A Kuwaiti-Iranian joint venture called Unisteel, began commercial production of rebars in Kuwait

This new rolling mill has a capacity of  500,000 t/y, aiming to produce in the 1e year about 300,000 tons.
Initial sales will be focused to the local Kuwaiti market and the Saudi market.
The Kuwait consumption of rebar is close to 350,000 t/y.
Billets will likely be imported from Turkey, Iran, and East European countries
The plant was  financed 51% by Kuwaitis private sector, and 49% by National Iranian Steel Co.
VAI was the plant builder.
