Briefing 10-3-2002
Turkey’s Icdas Celik is currently producing at a rate of around 200,000t/y
from its new specialty wire rod line. The line has a capacity of 140t/h,
says Danieli, which carried out the work; commissioning began in August last
year. It has been commercially operating since the end of last year, it
seems.
This is the first wire rod mill for specialty steels to operate in Turkey,
says Danieli. It can produce 5.5-16mm wire rod in coils weighing up to
3,000kg for automotive applications.
The wire rod line was installed at the company’s 750,000 t/y bar mill at
Icdas, near Istanbul. It is currently not working at capacity, because it
operates jointly with the bar line.
Production is aimed at domestic market and export, with the largest part
going to exports. The company’s main markets are Europe, Middle East, Far
East and the USA.
