Tunisia's Intermetal to start up revamped mill by June next year. |
Tunisia's Intermetal plans
to start up its revamped debar and merchant bar mill by June 2002. The last phase of the unit's modernisation is now underway as the new continuous roughing mill is being installed. Danieli is performing the work. New equipment includes also an automatic cooling bed, an in-line multi-strand straightening and cut-to-length facilities, and a new stacking/bundling station. All the new installations are built as an extension of the existing mill, which has continued to produce during the modernisation works. The modernisation will increase the mill's capacity from 40-50,000t/y to 250-300,000t/y. After the start up, it will take about three months to reach full capacity. Most of the extra-production will be aimed at the export market. The revamped mill will produce 10-20mm diameter deformed bars and up to 50mm angle bars, and correspondent flats and channels. |
