Hadeed Hama to increase production of steel billets and rebars in 2004

  The General Company for Iron and Steel Hadeed Hama, produced in 2003, 58KT steel billets and 53 KT of rebars.
For 2004 it expects to increase production to 60 KT of steel billets and 78 KT of round bars.
In 2003, they also produced 5000t of steel tubes, expected to rise in 2004 to 8000t.

Hadeed Hama is a public owned company and all their products are sold in the Syrian market.

4 more private steel mills started steel production over the past 2 years, and are producing now a total of about 700 KT of rebars and industrial steel.
Most of the production caters to local demand, but some exports to neighboring countries have started.
 
 

 

Syrian Egyptian Venture to assemble Isuzu mini buses

Syria has signed a deal with an Egyptian firm to set up a plant in Syria to assemble mini buses manufactured by Japanese truck maker Isuzu <7202.T.
A Syrian public sector body, the General Establishment for Engineering Industries, will own 40 percent of the $4 million plant while private Egyptian firm al-Wahab Group will own the rest.

The plant, Syria's first transportation vehicles assembly line, would produce about 600 30-seat mini-buses per year.

The project is expected to start production on January 1, 2004, and would provide at least 150 jobs for Syrian workers. About 10 percent of the staff will come from Isuzu.

The group is currently producing 600 vehicles per year at its plant in Egypt.

The company plans to manufacture certain components locally.
  

Syria's Arabian Steel Company (Asco) is expected to commission

  Syria's Arabian Steel Company (Asco) is expected to commission its 300,000 t/y bar and rebar rolling mill in April. The mill, which is based in Lattakia will also produce wire rod. The 6-32mm round bar and 8-32mm rebar rolling mill will have a reheating furnace for 120mm imported billet, a roughing train and an intermediate/finishing train. Most of the mill's production will be used domestically. In addition, A.S.Co is planning a 50t/h line for the production of wire rod from 5.5 to 16mm and rebar 6-16mm.
