CANAM MANAC group concludes agreement for joint business venture in middle
east

(Boucherville) - With a presence in Eastern Europe and the Asian continent
through its offices in Brasov, Romania, and Kolkata, India, The Canam Manac
Group Inc. (TSX, CAM.A ) has now increased its access to Asian markets with the
conclusion of an agreement for a joint venture with a business partner in the
Middle East. The agreement was reached between The Canam Manac Group Inc. and Zamil International Investment Co., a Saudi Arabian company that is very well established in the steel construction industry in the Middle East and Asia. The joint business venture, Canam Asia, will operate a plant in Dammam, Saudi Arabia, with an annual production capacity of up to 22,000 imperial tons that will consist mainly of steel joists. Production is set to begin over the next several weeks. The Canam Manac Group's stake in Canam Asia is 35%. Executive Vice President of The Canam Manac Group, Marc Dutil, said, "This investment will allow both partners to combine their expertise and experience to take advantage of the many business opportunities that will present themselves in this part of the world over the next several years." The Canam Manac Group Inc. is an industrial company specialized in the design and fabrication of steel components, semitrailers, and forestry equipment. It operates 21 plants in Canada, the United States, and Mexico. In 2001, sales reached CAN$1 billion and the company employs close to 5,000 people. |

Zamil Steel to construct $32 million Omani poultry farm

Saudi Zamil Steel has been awarded a 12.5 million Saudi riyal ($32 million)
contract by Oman’s Asaffa Poultry Farms. The company has been commissioned with
providing Asaffa with steel buildings for its new project in Dhofar. Zamil will design 86 buildings to be constructed on 118,00 square meters of land in cooperation with the National Contracting & Trading Company. Construction will begin in December and has a target date of completion set for February 2003. Zamil Steel was established in 1977 in Dammam as a single division company specialized in the design, manufacture and supply of pre-engineered steel buildings. In 1998, the company became a unit of Zamil Industrial Investment Company (ZIIC), a newly formed joint-stock company that also includes Zamil Air Conditioning and Zamil Glass. |

Arabian Pipes orders travelling pipe cut-off machine

Arabian Pipes Company (A.P.C.) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, has placed an order with
SMS Meer GmbH, Germany, for the supply of a travelling pipe cut-off machine. A.P.C., leading manufacturer of medium diameter API pipe in the Middle East has now also decided in favour of a machine from SMS Meer, following the example of pipe mills in the USA, Canada, Japan, South Korea, Greece, Iran and the United Arab Emirates. Following the delivery of a strip edge milling machine to A.P.C. by SMS Meer in 2001, this new machine is a further step to guaranteeing pipe production to the highest quality standards on the latest plants and is part of APC's continuous development program in their 20" ERW pipe plant. The machine is capable of cutting round and square pipe strand leaving the ERW line (Electrical Resistance Welding) "on the fly" by means of a milling cut-off unit travelling synchronously with the speed of the pipe strand. The pipes and corresponding profiles lie in a diameter range from 6 5/8" to 20" with wall thicknesses from 3.2 to 16.0mm. The finished tube lengths range from 6 to 15m. |

Zamil Steel signs SR70m in export contracts

Zamil Steel Industries announced that during the past quarter of this year, it
has won contracts worth more than SR70 million for the supply of different steel
structures through its three distinct divisions: Pre-Engineered Building (PEB),
Structural Steel (SS), and Towers & Galvanizing (T&G). This announcement was
made by Khalid Al Zamil, president of Zamil Steel, who stated that the company
exported these projects to 19 markets in Asia, Africa and Europe. "The PEB division was able to secure many projects to supply buildings in several countries, including Poland, Romania, Switzerland, Bangladesh and Spain," said Zamil. This division also secured a major contract for A'saffa Poultry Farm, which is recognized as the largest poultry farm in Oman. The SS division successfully secured and exported projects to countries such as Cyprus and Spain, among others. The SS division was also awarded the supply of steel for the Shuweihat Independent Water & Power Project in Abu Dhabi, UAE — a major project of its kind in the region. Furthermore, the T&G division signed major export contracts to design, fabricate and supply transmission towers to countries including Nigeria, Ghana, Algeria and Tunisia. Zamil Steel Industries is a unit of Zamil Industrial Investment Co. (Saudi Joint Stock Company) which includes Zamil Air Conditioners and Zamil Glass. The company is the largest pre-engineered buildings manufacturer in Asia and Africa, with a capacity to produce more than 500,000 square metres of pre-engineered buildings per month at its plant in Saudi Arabia. Zamil Steel has a presence in 40 countries around the world. |
